Our Love Sleeps On The Waters

a look at the music of Vangelis Papathanassiou

Introduction
Vangelis' very first solo single is curiously not one of his own compositions. The fact is that both songs on the single 'Our love sleeps on the waters' and 'The clock' are actually composed by George Romanos, and performed by Vangelis and his Orchestra.

The songs are instrumental versions of the songs “I agapi mas kimate sta nera” and “To Roloi”, which are originally recorded for George Romanos 1968 album "In concert and in the studio". For some reason the instrumental versions of these songs were released separately in the same year, and in Vangelis' name... Whatever the reason, the record is a milestone in Vangelis' career !

The members of Vangelis' "orchestra" were in fact the same musicians that would later that year form the group "Aphrodite's Child", after the group travelled to France in search of a more international audience....

There is a mismatch between the song title on the 7" single and the cd release. The single refers to "Our love sleeps on the waters", while the cd claims the song is named "Our love sleeps on the water"...
