The Minis

a look at the music of Vangelis Papathanassiou

Introduction
"The Minis" is one of the many groups that explored the garage-scene in Athens during the sixties. Founded in Athens early in 1966 the group only stayed together for a few months during which they released two singles: Darlin' " / “ Yepee Ya Ya song” and "And I love her" / "Girl".

Interestingly, except for Vangelis the group lines up all the members that would later form Aphrodite's Child: Demis Roussos, Lukas Sideras and Argyris 'Silver' Koulouris. Additional members include Themes Petrou (vocals) and Stylos Vlavianos (organ), the man behind many of Demis Roussos' hits during his solo-career in the seventies.

The first single "Darlin' " / "Yepee Ya Ya song" also includes Zoitsa "Zoe" Kouroukli on vocals, with whom Vangelis also worked on a few of here singles. As a group The Minis including Zoe also appear in Orestis Laskos' film "Na zei kaneis i na mi zei" (To be or not to be), performing the songs of their first single (see pictures on the right).

The second single “And I love her” / “Girl” does not include Zoe, but according to the Greek book "Get that beat" about the sixties it does feature Vangelis playing! The songs are covers from well the well-known Beatles-songs.
